School Attendance

Every Day Counts

Good attendance is the key to successful schooling.

Going to school every day means:

  • Learning new skills
  • Building lasting relationships
  • Taking part in fun activities
  • Developing confidence and resilience

Our doors open at 8.35am and registration closes at 8.45am

Every Minute Counts

Pupils arriving on time have the chance to settle into the day and complete their early morning activities which are crucial to learning for the rest of the day. Good time-keeping is a vital life skill which will help children as they progress through their school life and out into the wider world.

Did you know?

Missing just 7 mins of school every day is the same as missing a whole week over the year!

90% attendance is equivalent to missing 100 hour-long lessons and a whole month over the year.

How School Can Help?

Every term, parents and carers are informed of their child’s attendance %.  When necessary, attendance meetings are held to discuss ways that home and school can work together to improve children’s attendance. Sometimes external agencies can help and action plans are created.

If you would like advice about your child’s health, you can also contact our school nursing team:

Absence Definitions

Authorised absences are mornings or afternoons absent from school for good reasons, like illness or medical/ dental appointments which unavoidably fall in school time. Evidence of appointments will need to be provided.

Unauthorised absences are those which school do not consider reasonable and may lead to Essex County Council issuing a penalty notice e.g. birthday, shopping trip, being unable to participate in a PE lesson, parent illness.
