Year 5 Victorian Trip

This week the children in year 5 had a fantastic day at Braintree Museum.  The day was full of interactive and hands-on learning for the children which comprised three main elements:

  • Classroom Roleplay – Set in a Victorian classroom, the children were given an authentic lesson from a role play teacher. They practised writing on slates, learnt their tables Victorian style and found out what discipline was like in Victorian schools.
  • Object handling – the children had the the opportunity to explore a number of Victorian objects and tried hard to work out what they were used for.
  • Guided gallery visit – children discovered more about the history of Manor Street School, our Victorian industries and life.  There was also the exciting visit to the shop!
