Some of us panicked a bit, but there was really no need as it was just a tickle!
5W Class Assembly
A great superheroes class assembly.
River Crouch Clean Up
Last weekend, Megan and Hannah again helped the River Crouch Conservation Trust clean out the River in Memorial Park. This time round they pulled out lots of traffic cones, traffic signs, tyres, a couple of bikes, a few carpets, bits of clothing and lots and lots of plastic bags, bottles and cans, which are all very harmful for the local wildlife. They also helped to clean some logs and weeds that were blocking the river. By the end of the clear up the river not only looked much better, but was also flowing much better too.
Well done girls!
Cross Country Festival
Congratulations to the running club who represented the school at the Wickford Cross Country Festival this afternoon.
Unfortunately we didn’t have enough runners to compete as a full team in all year groups but everyone participated in usual WJS style – supporting each other and running their best. Year 4 did have a full team with the girls finishing in 6th place and the boys finishing in 5th place over all.
Paul Waldron from the Gateway project came in to receive our donations to support local people. These children read prayers they’d written themselves.
A Day in Politics
We spent the day learning about politics; we had a debate, created our own political parties and decided how to help different parts of our community.
Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Harris on their marriage.
Year 5 have been learning basic first aid skills so they know how to cope in an emergency.
Year 6 Production

Her efforts were recognised by Mr Mower and she was surprised with a special reward pen during her transition visit today. WELL DONE!!

WELL DONE!! They each win a £10 voucher.
Congratulations to our year 6 rounders team, who finished 3rd in the Wickford round of the Basildon, Wickford & Billericay rounders tournament. They played particularly well considering the blustery conditions making just standing difficult, let alone bowling. Many thanks to the supportive parents too.
Year 5 have been learning about Mayan and Aztec civilisations so they made shoe box scenes from that period.
Swimming Gala Finals
Congratulations to our swimming squad who competed in the finals of the Wickford and Woodham sports partnership. Our year 3/4 team finished in 4th position and year 5/6 finished 3rd overall. Special thanks to Harry D, Chloe and Harry T for standing in and to Harvey for joining the team at the last minute.

River Crouch Clean-Up
Well done to Hannah and Megan who spent the morning cleaning up the River Crouch with the River Crouch Conservation Trust. They were the only children there but put in a really good shift collecting all the rubbish the adults got out of the river, bagging it up or moving it to collection points for the truck to pick up and also loading and unloading the rubbish from the truck. They found lots of car tyres, car parts, clothing, plastic bags, general rubbish, a road sign, traffic cones, trollies and even a zimmer frame!
The trust do this clean up twice a year and it’s only for a morning of people’s time. It would be fantastic if more children and their parents could join in next time – look out for information about it around October.
Red Nose Day
We raised £ for Comic Relief and Cancer Research UK.
Year 6 spent the day completing a variety of fun challenges to make them think about what motivates them and how they can be successful learners.
Y5 Rocket Project
Year 5’s topic this term has been Space and they were set a homework project to build their own rocket. They are amazing!

Anglia Ruskin University
Year 6 visited the Chelmsford campus of Anglia Ruskin university today to find out first hand what university life is like. It was a terrific day ………
After chatting to student ambassadors and a tour of the campus, children completed their own university-based activities then had the opportunity to present their work in the lecture theatre. They will also have the opportunity to show their work to their parents at the university family day in March.
Hopefully some of our pupils are now inspired to aim for university when they are older.
Congratulations to the children who represented the school at the first round of the Wickford swimming gala today. Overall, year 3 & 4 came FIRST and year 5 & 6 came FIRST!! So both teams qualify for the finals later in the year.
