The new government advice is for the whole household to self-isolate for 14 days if any member of a family shows symptoms. This is to help to protect others in the community. If others in the family develop the symptoms, they should self-isolate for 7 days from the onset of their symptoms (regardless of what day they are on the original 14-day-isolation period).
The symptoms are: a new, continuous cough, temperature >37.8oC or shortness of breath.
Self-isolation: for children who cannot attend school but are well, we will be preparing some work for them to complete at home within the next few days.
Social distancing: we will postpone unnecessary social contacts such as swimming, trips and parent sessions.
As a school we receive daily updates from Public Health England. The current advice for all schools (and wider public businesses and venues) is that we should wash our hands more often and for 20 seconds, using soap and water or hand sanitiser, especially:
- when we get to work/school or arrive home
- after we blow our nose, cough or sneeze
- before we eat or handle food
We should also cough or sneeze into tissues then bin them immediately.
Within school, we have put additional measures in place to minimise the spread of germs: we have special, lidded tissue bins in every classroom alongside hand sanitiser; children always sanitize their hands as they walk into the dining hall; cleaners disinfect door handles around the school every day and only the bottle-filling water dispensers are switched on. Posters are displayed in every classroom and other key areas around school to remind everyone of these important hygiene facts and teachers are reminding pupils daily.
