'Abbie's Army' is a children's DIPG (Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma) brain tumour research charity, founded in loving memory of Abbie.
Their mission is to :
- Raise awareness and funding for DIPG research to help overturn this 'terminal' prognosis. AND
- Provide a useful resource , practical advice and support for other parents who receive this horrendous diagnosis for their child.
2016
Little Havens hospice provides specialist care for babies, children and teenagers, up to the age of 19 from across Essex, who have a life-limiting or life threatening illness.
They offer short respite breaks, emergency stays to control a child’s symptoms caused by their illness or medication; and care for children at the end of their lives – for as long as is needed – within the home and at their hospice.
They look after the whole family too such as one-to-one support, post bereavement care and emotional and educational support for siblings.
2015
Thanks to Ryan's impassioned presentation, blood cancers were chosen as our charity of the year this year. Since then, sadly one of our pupils has developed leukaemia, so we have also thrown ourselves into fundraising to support Sadie and her family.
2013
In 2012 Battersea cared for more than 5,500 dogs and nearly 3,000 cats and it cost £12.7m to care for the dogs and cats at Battersea’s three centres in south London, at Brands Hatch and Old Windsor. They receive no Government funding to run the Home but exist purely through the generosity of charity.
2011
Our charity was the Polly Parrot Appeal, raising money to fit the paediatric Accident & Emergency department being built at Basildon hospital. There will be a sensory room and various zones to help children of all ages feel safe and relaxed. Our children have been asked to help design the department so it is truly child-friendly. The year 6 school councillors attended the launch evening at Orsett Hall on Wednesday 6th October and spoke about how this appeal was important to them. Then we were invited to the opening on 29th Feb 2012.
We raised £2215 through cake sales, a World Book Day book sale, non-uniform days, a sponsored run & red nose day challenges; £800 was also raised for Comic Relief.
We also held a competition to design and make Polly Parrot, which were then displayed in Basildon hospital.
2012
This year children voted to raise money for the multiple sclerosis society.
Fundraising events included an easter cake and paper origami sale, Sport Relief mile run and non-uniform days.
2010
We have sponsored a ugandan gorilla called Amy for several years now and we have a link with Mutolere Primary school nearby. So this year we decided to raise money to support the conservation of Amy's species and the villages around her.
We raised £2535 through a sponsored mile run, selling bookmarks, selling scooby doos and a sponsored Speedmark.
2009
Our charity was Jennifer's Trust. We raised £2185 in the following ways:
-
making and selling magazines and bookmarks
-
Wacky Records during Comic Relief
-
non-uniform days
-
stalls at Christmas bazaar
-
multiskills challenge with Team Superschools
