What is a Lateral Flow Home Test (LFT)?
LFTs are for regular testing of people without symptoms.
If someone tests positive with an LFT , they should immediately book a PCR test and self-isolate.
What is a PCR test?
A PCR test is for those with any of the Covid symptoms (new persistent cough, high temperature, loss of taste or smell) or anyone who has a positive LFT. Anyone with symptoms must isolate until a negative PCR test result is received.
A PCR test is also for close contacts of those who have tested positive for Covid. Children and double-vaccinated adults do not need to isolate whilst they wait for the PCR test result unless they develop symptoms.
What is a close contact?
A close contact can be either direct or proximity.
- A direct contact is anyone who has been face-to-face for any length of time with someone who has tested positive.
- A proximity contact is anyone who has been within 2 metres for 15 minutes or more with someone who has tested positive.
