The aim of Bootcamp is to provide sessions that will challenge pupils to develop a growth-mindset, whilst developing life skills such as teamwork, perseverance, leadership, communication skills and social skills. Our school aim is to foster a positive mindset in children so they learn to understand that, with a little bit of hard work, they can achieve anything they wish.
Bootcamp are a sister company to Essex Boot Camp (one of the largest providers of outdoor training with over 40yrs experience). Bootcamp have taken their philosophy and adapted it to work with children.
In the first sessions, basic expectations are set, focusing on children’s safety, so that whatever activities are undertaken they know how to keep safe. They learn to listen carefully to instruction and have fun. These expectations help children to understand accountability within a group and encourage teamwork. An example of one of the first activities children enjoy is a ‘kit run’ which involves them moving items of kit from one end of the field to the other as a team.
These sessions take part throughout the year, so keeping warm is a key priority in some months; children are therefore kept active and encouraged to wear warm, waterproof clothing.
No matter what a child’s ability or confidence level, the sessions are designed to promote effort. Children set their own targets to achieve and where children are apprehensive to start, they are given the opportunity to watch and then take part when they feel ready.
